Mullion and the Lizard Peninsula

mullionharbour.jpg

The village of Mullion is surrounded by countryside and located on Cornwall's Magical Lizard Peninsula, close to the glorious sandy beaches of Polurrian and Poldhu, smuggler's coves and crystal clear Gulf Stream waters.  Mullion is Cornwall's largest village with a population of around 2300.

As the British Isle's most southerly peninsula, the Lizard has a mild climate and is home to an array of exotic flowers, and it's clear turquoise waters home to the famous Cornish Seal.   As a thriving local community Mullion has a wide variety of shops, art galleries, pubs, tea rooms, schools, post office, printers, petrol station, beautiful 15 th century church, community garden, cricket team and golf club.

Once a busy Pilchard fishing harbour Mullion Harbour has been preserved by the National Trust, and is today a magical place to visit with it’s lobster pots, quaint cobbled slipway, and old picturesque net store that provide a timeless and precious tranquillity that is difficult to find. The coloured fishing boats still support a small fishing community and fresh lobster and crab is still landed at the quays of Mullion Harbour.

With it’s equally magical tiny sandy cove (revealed only at low tide) the dramatic back drop of the high serpentine cliffs and tiny Mullion Island (now a bird reserve) it is no surprise that Mullion Cove and Harbour have featured in many historic TV and Film dramas over the years.

Meaver Farm is ideally located for the Southwest coastal path meaning you can walk out and enjoy some of the most breathtaking coastal walking available in Cornwall without having to use your car.  One of the most popular walks is the Mullion Cove to Lizard Point and village http://www.southwestcoastpath.com/main/walks/index.cfm?fsa=dspWalkDetail&w_id=11

The Lizard Coastal Path is one of the most spectacular stretches of the Cornwall Coast path, reaching from the Helford River in the east down to England’s most southerly point, The Lizard, and then round past Mullion on the west coast to Porthleven.

Highlights to see along the way include: Frenchman's Creek, Kynance Cove, Coverack, Cadgwith, and Loe Pool.  Those with canine companions may wish to visit the website as most beaches on the Lizard limit access to dogs between Easter day and October 31st http://www.cornwall-beaches.co.uk/
